Roland usually intimidates most people. All they see is a big, dark-skinned farrier (horseshoe blacksmith) that doesn't say much. What they don't see is the gentle-hearted man that spends his days taking care of abused and injured horses on his small homestead. Content in his provincial life until one day he finds an injured horse in his barn in need of care. The silver mustang is actually a firey-eyed Centaur named Nakas. Charged with protecting the balance of the Colorado Territory and the native people living there, Nakas seems to be fighting a losing battle. To free the last of his people, he comes face to face with the US Army's exploration of the region bringing Nakas' fight to Roland's door. Bonding over their painful pasts, the two men find understanding and maybe something more. Will family obligations and ancient responsibilities shackle them, or will their warrior hearts be strong enough to keep them together?
