Lady Hiroko has been a proper wife to her general husband. A perfect pillar of the community, running their household with precision and greeting visitors to their town with warmth and propriety. when the general fails to return after one of the final battles of the war, Lady Hiroko holds out hope for five years honoring her husband's legacy while punishing herself for not being able to provide him with an heir. Finally deciding to mourn her husband she proceeds with the funeral rites. Faced with the daunting task of finding her place in her husbands absence she engages more with her staff and townspeople. One day on a campaign in town, Lady Hiroko meets a young samurai who intervenes between her and some ruffians. Later that night she discovers the young fighter bloodied in the street with word of an attack on the town causing mass panic. risking her own life she takes in the wounded warrior and enlists help to defend the town. Focused on caring for the kind stranger she discovers the samurai is a woman named Isu. As she heals Isu insists on not being a burden and helping around the house until she is able to re-enlist. During the soldier's recovery, Lady Hiroko's estate is attacked. Isu proves useful as she defends the house from the intruders protecting all who live within the walls. After the commotion, the widow decides to hire Isu as her personal body guard as she ventures out into town helping her friends and neighbors. as some time passes she starts to become more of the woman she was before the loss of her husband. Just as Lady Hiroko allows her self to finally feel joy and comfort in her budding relationship with Isu, she is dealt a devastating blow regarding her late husband. Will she be able to over come this crushing news, will Isu be able to guide Lady Hiroko through this crisis with her unwavering devotion?
